Metal Systems
Description: Metal roofing is a popular roofing option for commercial buildings that have positive slope. Metal roofing is available in a variety of metals, including aluminum, steel, galvalume and copper, and can be coated with a range of colors and finishes. The two main types of metal roofing in commercial applications are Standing seam and Exposed Fastner Systems.
Standing Seam Systems are a type of metal roofing system that is made up of vertical panels with raised seams that interlock to create a watertight barrier. The seams typically have either a “snap lock” style overlap or a mechanically seamed overlap to prevent water penetration.
Exposed Fastner Systems consists of overlapping panels that are fastened directly to the roof deck or framing through the face of the metal. They are called “exposed” because the fastener head remains visible once installed.
